Prior to joining VMA, Jeanette managed multiple public health infrastructure projects, including LA County Metro: Rail to Rail/River Project, Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Plans, particularly in disadvantaged communities. She developed comprehensive, community driven SRTS work plans and steering committees to increase the percentage of youth safely walking and biking to school. She worked with local elected officials, city and school district staff, parents and community members to establish safe active transportation environments at and around schools. During her tenure with Kaiser Permanente, Jeanette managed the Summer Youth Employment Program, where she worked with foster youth to prepare them for careers in health care and create a pipeline from high school to college.
Jeanette has also lobbied the state legislature in support a bill to create a tax on sugary beverages and provided technical assistance for implementation of 17 local and 3 state policies to establish nutrition standards in public spaces where children and their families congregate and increase consumption of healthy beverages.
