In the Fall of 2018, Whittier Union High School District began the process of transitioning from at-large to by-trustee area elections. Community input was critical as part of this process, and the District enlisted VMA Communications as a trusted partner to lead its outreach and communication efforts.
VMA’s team helped coordinate, publicize, and facilitate public hearings, community open houses and group exercises, presentations, Meet the Demographer events, and monitored and compiled all comments received from the community. VMA also developed project collateral including bilingual postcards, posters, group exercise worksheets, and a project website, as well as coordinating social media and print announcements.
As a result of VMA’s work for the District, more than 100 interested stakeholders participated in the process, and more than 200 comments were received. This input helped inform the Board’s decision on a trustee area map and election cycle which achieved a final approval by the Los Angeles County Committee on School District Organization in 2019.
